A Strategic Cluster for language and music research

BRAMS (International Laboratory for Brain, Music and Sound Research) and CRLMB (Centre for Research on Language, Mind and Brain) united to create the CRBLM – Centre for Research on Brain, Language and Music, now generously funded by FRQNT, FQRSC, McGill University, Université de Montréal, UQAM and the Montreal Neurological Institute.

The new Centre for Research on Brain, Language and Music – CRBLM integrates within one strategic research group, a significant focus on each research domain (language and music) and their intersection. This is a logical yet forward-looking synergy and it represents a unique opportunity to organize and develop within Quebec and Canada a significant research focus on the neurosciences of language and music that is unparalleled anywhere in the world. The mission of the CRBLM is to establish, through the consolidation and interaction of these two complementary groups of researchers and extensive research facilities, an international hub for basic and applied research and research training in the neuroscience of language and music. The mandate includes educational activities, community outreach, knowledge dissemination, international conferences and media activities. Our overall objective is to gather unique insights into the organization of the human brain for speech, language, music and communication by studying, separately and in combination, the biological endowment of language and music and the associated cognitive processes. This exciting new directions has important implications for application in clinical, rehabilitative, and pedagogic realms.

CRBLM is to be funded by FRQNT, FQRSC, McGill University, Université de Montréal, UQAM and the Montreal Neurological Institute from April 2011 to March 2017.
