Jenny Saffran, Ph.D.

Dr. Jenny Saffran is the Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor at the University of Wisconsin – Madison (USA). She completed her Bachelor’s degree at Brown University and her Ph.D. at the University of Rochester. She has received numerous grants and awards to support her research at the Infant Learning Lab at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Professor Saffran is broadly interested in the learning abilities that infants deploy to discover structure in their world. A particular focus of her work lies in statistical learning – the detection of patterns and regularities in the environment. While many of her studies have focused on language learning, she is also deeply interested in the extent to which the learning abilities underlying this process are available for other learning processes, such as discovering the structures present in music.
